Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is NRW`s art, fashion, advertising and political capital.

But it has a second face: It`s surprisingly down to earth.

Düsseldorf

You have Fortuna football supporters drinking an Alt (local dark beer) on old town restaurant street Ratinger Straße close to fashion stores on legendary "" and the world-famous art college.

Go to Flingern, Bilk or Derendorf and you`ll find inventive communities, who are constantly looking for new, cosmopolitan ideas. "Helau!" Düsseldorf is carnival furious always rivaling their neighbour city Cologne. You will find people here who may not be considered typically German. During carnival the "I" becomes a "WE".

Lesser known is the fact that Düsseldorf has the third largest Japanese community in Europe and is a big player in Germany`s and the world`s music history with bands like Kraftwerk, DAF and NEU!. In their songs the local band Die Toten Hosen celebrate Düsseldorf's old town as "the longest bar in the world" and bring fans all over the world to chant for their hometown. While Düsseldorf`s name (Dorf = village) may imply that it is an unpretentious buddy, it has everything on tap a cosmopolitan city needs.
